An Indian family decide to stay at home and drown rather than move out of the way for the Narmada dam. Shot over three years by director Fanny Armstrong (McLibel), Drowned Out tells the true story of one family's inspired stand against the destruction of their land, homes and culture. Best selling author Arundhati Roy joins the fight against the dam and asks the difficult questions. Will the water go to poor farmers or to rich industrialists? What happened to the 16 million people displaced by fifty years of dam building? Why should I care? This 75 minute no-budget, no-electricity documentary has been seen by more than 14 million people.
This event is to promote Salisbury Festival's 2007 environmental focus on Water. Drowned Out will be preceded by 10 minute short about water conservation made by Codford Youth Group.
The film will be followed by a Q&A with Dan Glass, Narmada Valley Activist and former project volunteer.
Tuesday 29 May @ 7pm Salisbury Arts Centre (Cafe & Bar open from 7pm).
Tickets £5. Booking: ONLINE By Phone: 01722 321 744 or on the door.
